About International Day for Monuments and Sites
The initiative began at an ICOMOS meeting in the Tunisian city of Hammamet on 18 April 1982 and was endorsed by UNESCO in 1983. The annual date recalls that meeting. Heritage is valued for its cultural meaning and shared memory, not simply its age.
