About World Theatre Day
The International Theatre Institute launched World Theatre Day in 1961. Jean Cocteau wrote its first annual message in 1962. The date, 27 March, recalls the opening of the 1962 Theatre of Nations season in Paris; the annual message is shared across languages and cultures.
