About World Wetlands Day
World Wetlands Day has been observed since 1997 and was recognised by the General Assembly in 2021. The date, 2 February, commemorates the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971. The convention is often called the Ramsar Convention after that city.
