About World Space Week
The General Assembly proclaimed World Space Week in 1999 for 4–10 October each year. The opening date commemorates the 1957 launch of Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to orbit Earth. The closing date marks the Outer Space Treaty's entry into force in 1967.
